Artist, writer, and expressive arts therapist

“The arts get to the heart of the matter,”

I pursued theater and music as a means of self-expression. As a young adult, I considered myself an actress, not an artist. Visual arts were intimidating. It wasn’t until graduate school, at Lesley College, in my early twenties, that I started drawing again. At a week-long colloquium, before grad school, I found myself drawing in a workshop with one of my soon-to-be favorite Professors. The image wasn’t clear to me, it was just looking like shapes of color. I was being self-critical of my art. My professor walked over I guess after seeing a frustrated look on my face. He kindly said, “ Eve, trust the process. Keep working on it. It will become more clear to you.” That message from the dear professor gave me a breakthrough moment and self-permission to explore through visual arts. A whole world opened up to me twenty-nine years ago. Creating art through drawing and painting, not only has served as a method of self-expression but also a way to go within and understand myself in a deeper way.
